Afghanistan is interested in the Finnish forrest know-how

The new Ambassador of Finland in Afghanistan, Mr. Hannu Ripatti, met the President of Afghanistan on September 5th and the Chief Executive of the Government of Afghanistan on September 12th, 2017.

Both President Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah thanked Finland warmly for all the assistance Finland has given to Afghanistan and stressed the good relations and cooperation between our countries.

They wished that Finland could support Afghanistan’s reforestation and the establishment of a commercial forestry sector in Afghanistan with the know-how we have in Finland. Reforestation would prevent erosion and increase carbon sinks. A commercial forestry sector would increase the sorely needed extra funds for the people of the poor rural areas.

President Ghani also wished for more Finnish know-how in the production of clean energy and more efficient power transfer networks. He mentioned the possibility to develop Kabul’s waste management so that waste could be used in the production of electricity to fulfill Kabul’s needs. Chief Executive Abdullah stressed the importance of Finland’s education sector, especially vocational training, and wished that our expertise could be used in Afghanistan’s development.
